This section is to serve as an overview of certain drone scenarios. At the end of the day, if it does not feel safe, do not fly it! Call IDT to discuss alternative options.
Flying Over People
- We do not fly over people / non-participants unless we have a remote ID enabled sub 250g drone
Flying Over Moving Vehicles
- We do not sustain flight over moving vehicles
- Do not fly across expressways or busy roads even when transitioning
Flying Over Trains/Public Transportation
- This is not allowed ever.
- Do not go near the CTA when flying in Chicago
- Do not cross over moving trains
Flying At Night
- Pilots operating under Part 107 may fly at night, over people and moving vehicles without a waiver as long as they meet the requirements defined in the rule. Airspace authorizations are still required for night operations in controlled airspace under 400 feet.
Flying Over Jails, Hospitals, Courthouses
- This is not allowed ever. Check your airloft map to ensure you are not near any of these facilities.
- If any concerns, call management to discuss before taking off
Maintaining Visual Line of Sight
- This is required at all times when flying Mavic
- For outdoor FPV drone, the Visual Observer must be able to maintain line of sight of the drone at all times
- For indoor drone, we do not need to maintain visual line of sight
Flying Up To 400 ft
